2003-04 & 2004-05 Rule Changes

Several important rule changes emerged from the 2003 USA Hockey Annual Congress. These changes will be valid for the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons and include use of a lighter puck for the 10-or-under youth and girl's age groups and below, removal of reference to delayed off-sides, and prohibition of slap shots during games for girl's 10-or-under and below.

Past Rule Changes

Modification to Lightweight Puck Mandate

On Sept. 4, 2003 the USA Hockey Board of Directors modified a rule mandating the use of a lightweight (4-4.5 oz.) blue puck. Effectively immediately, all players in 8-and-Under and younger age divisions are required to use the blue pucks. For players 10-and-Under, use of the blue puck is strongly recommended by the Board, but not required.
